Runde Auto Group’s long storied history dates back to the year 1927, which is why many current Runde advertisements read “Runde Auto Group since 1927”.   The origins of the Runde Auto Group are quite humble and can be traced back to the day Alfred Runde founded the East Dubuque Garage in earnest close to a century ago.  Alfred C. Runde (1897-1972) was born into the household of August Runde (1866-1941) and Louisa Manemann Runde (1874-1952).  He was the second oldest of 10 children.  His nine siblings in order from oldest to youngest were Lucy, Robert, Mabel, Earl, Emily, Louis, Carl, Mildred, and Oliver.    The Runde kids grew up in the Township of Hazel Green in Grant County and Alfred’s father and mother farmed for a living in nearby Sinsinawa, WI for nearly 45 years.  Alfred married Irene Cecelia Cullen at St. Mary’s Church in East Dubuque in 1927.  That same year, he also founded the

How Much Do You Pay for Gas for your Chevy in Dubuque?

Dubuque area Chevrolet Dealer asks the Community their thoughts on local gas prices
Chevrolet customers in Dubuque, this article will provide you with some good news. In case you haven’t gotten out of the house yet this year, I’ll point out quickly that gas prices were on a relative free fall during the second half of the year and have recently landed at a cost per gallon that is somewhat comfortable for most folks in the midwest. One Runde Auto Group customer commented, “It’s nice not having to drain my wallet each week at the gas pump”. If you’re one of those whose daily work commute is relatively short, then it’s possible you’ve never really broken too much of a sweat over gas prices. Nonetheless, everyone loves to rant when gas prices are on the rise so whether we admit it or not, everyone cares about the price of fuel in Iowa. Recently a co-worker recently pointed out to me to this website that shows Chevrolet drivers in

The tradition was started by Genny’s late mother, Donna Ginter. “We were at 2,100 last year, so we are shooting for 2,200 people this year,” Genny said. “We start cooking the turkeys on Monday.” The sit-down dinner will be 12:30 p.m. on Thanksgiving – Thursday, Nov. 22 [...]

Eye-popping color and fresh takes on familiar subjects will be the focus of the newest exhibition at the Dubuque Museum of Art. The Dubuque Museum of Art’s spring exhibition, “Shiny, Sticky, Smooth: Pop Art and the Senses,” includes more than 70 pieces made by Pop Artists of the 1960s and ’70s. Among those are artworks by household names like Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein. Pop Art is a multi-sensory experience that combines bold colors with common subjects. Using carefully chosen materials, textures, and compositions, pop art is eye-catching, but also appeals to sound, taste, touch, and smell. The exhibition, which runs Feb. 18 to May 14 in the Falb Family Gallery, is from the collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and his Family Foundation. The fourth annual Julien Dubuque International Film Festival is just a couple weeks away! We are proud to say that Runde Auto Group has been a major sponsor from the start of the festival back in 2012. More than 35 films will be screened Thursday-Sunday, April 23-26. Venues include Stan’s Coffeehouse, Vinny Vannuchi’s, Holiday Inn Rooms 1, 2, and 3, Five Flags Orpheum, Five Flags Majestic, Dubuque Museum of Art, National Mississippi River Museum, Eronel, and Platinum Insurance. There will be fewer films and venues than there were in previous years – a decision that first-year executive director Susan Gorrell said will improve the festival experience, making it easier for attendees to plan a festival viewing schedule. Another major change in this year’s festival regards ticketing. Rather than purchasing a ticket for a specific showing of [...]
Runde Chevrolet got a blast from the past when Bob Kinsella pulled into the lot in his 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396. The vehicle, with its frost green exterior and dark green vinyl top and interior, was purchased from Paul Runde at Runde Chevrolet back in 1968. The cost for the special order at the time was just $4,165.90. Its original receipt itemizes features the vehicle included, like a clock for $15, the vinyl top for $89, the rear window defroster for $22 and bucket seats for $121. The 375 horsepower 396 engine, which still has its roar, cost just $252.80. The car is a bit of a boomerang [...]
Press Release 12-24-12 Runde Auto Group is pleased to announce the acquisition of Mound View Motors in Platteville, WI from Mr. Everett Gillilan.  Everett “Honest Todd” has been in the car business over 60 years and we wish him well. The operations will combine with those of our Cuba City Buick location and all employees from that location will remain with us in Platteville.  Most of the employees from the Mound View operation will be retained as well. We sincerely regret the impact this may have on the city of Cuba City.  We are hoping to soon find another use for the facility; we are currently looking at outside options as well as within our organization.  The Cuba City operation was successful for over ten years.  The current strategy of General Motors pairs Buick with GMC in one location and unfortunately GMC could not be added [...]
Nick Roche is one of our newest sales associates at our Chevrolet Store in East Dubuque, IL. Nick knows all about quality – he looks for it in an artist’s exhibit, craves for that flavor of perfection in a dish, and offers the best of quality to his customers. Nick can tell you where to eat, what wine is the best, what exhibits you shouldn’t miss and what deals you just can’t beat. The following interview inherits a bit about Nick and his likes. Welcome to Runde’s Nick. So, what made you want to be a salesman? I had previous sales experience selling golf equipment. It’s all about figuring out what people need and want. I also wanted to stay around the area because I like it here and all my friends and girlfriend are here. Where are you from? Park Forest, IL. [...]
Needless to say that this new design for the 2013 Fusion has been very well received at the Chicago Auto Show this week and people’s comments have been very favorable toward it.  The video below was shot by Runde Auto Group  — The noise in the background of the vid was coming from the new Shelby Mustang presentation across the room and we’ll post the video of that soon.  People were definitely all a-buzz about the Shelby.  But this new Fusion is definitely gorgeous. The new design is only about 1 inch longer and 1/2 inch wider than the previous Fusion, but it looks a lot longer than its predecessor mainly due to an extended wheelbase that’s almost 5 inches longer than the 2012 version.  A new inline 4-cylinder 1.6 Liter EcoBoost engine will be available on the all-new Fusion.  And this optional turbo engine will produce 179 horsepower and 172 lb-ft of torque and is [...]
What do you think of when you hear the word sustainable?  Nowadays we toss around the word “green” so frequently because the word itself has become hip, chic or très moderne, yet it’s actually somewhat difficult to define what being “green” totally encompasses in its true and purest essence.  Sustainability is one of the core components of being “green” – direct definition (from www.merriam-webster.com):” a : of, relating to, or being a method of harvesting or using a resource so that the resource is not depleted or permanently damaged.”  It’s using, and re-using, our resources to make environmentally sound methods for production of practically anything that will help us improve quality of life and earth. The best of the best in terms of sustainability in vehicles was realized by GM with the recent release of the Chevrolet Volt. The Volt, [...]
The Chevy Camaro has been turning heads since it was first released, but now there’s an eye-catching new option. Thanks to a very creative exterior vinyl wrap, an innovative Czech Republic company has sucessfully turned one of America’s most popular modern muscle cars into an elegant, awesome, artistic spectacle. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYbBaKD0nLc] Though we may not have any chrome Camaro’s, you can still check out our great inventory at www.RundeAutoGroup.com.
Go to the Graffiti Nights Car Show next Thursday and you will see people who share a passion for the classics  glowing and having a great time as they share stories and chit chat with fellow enthusiasts. The show started back in the early 1980’s by a man named Gary Duster of Dubuque, IA.   Gary is a classics fan who wanted to share his love of the classics with the Tri-State community. As of late, the show has moved to East Dubuque, IL where it seems to have found a perfect home. We got a hold of George Young, former owner of George & Dales restaurant and current Mayor of East Dubuque. With the help of his son and the support of the community, George gets things in order for the show to run weekly in East Dubuque.  He’s very enthusiastic [...]
Troy and April Hutson drove a long way this past week to come and buy their new truck from Runde Chevrolet.  In the time between signing paperwork and starting out for home, they were benevolent enough to give us a little extra time to ask them some questions about their lives and about their recent experience at Runde’s. What kind of vehicle did you buy?  We bought a new 2011 Silverado 2500 HD. You’re from Sandwich, IL – how far is that from Runde’s?   It’s about 180 miles and it took us almost three hours to get here. Have you always lived in that area? Troy:  I have.  I was born in Sandwich and pretty much lived there my whole life. April: I wasn’t born in Sandwich, but I’ve lived in that area most of my life.      What is Sandwich or that area of Illinois famous for or best know for? The [...]
In the short amount of time I spent with David and Jan Rafoth from Dubuque, I could tell that they have led interesting lives. And what constitutes an “interesting life” you may ask? For starters, how about stepping on a bomb and living to tell the story? Not enough for you? … Well add-on finding out where you are going to live based on a nice random car ride. Read on, hopefully you are as entertained by their stories as I was listening to them. How did you hear about Runde’s? Well we were looking to trade our car and we had previous experience with Runde’s and Al Kloft and we were treated right the last time we were here. After we saw the Cadillac in the paper we called Al up and he [...]
What did the mama turkey say to her naughty son???   If your papa could see you now, he’d turn over in his gravy!
One of our relatively recent additions to the Runde team is Mariah Diedrich. We just about caused mass mayhem by dragging her away from her phone, but Mariah gladly took a few moments to allow us to get to know her a little better. How long have you worked for Runde’s and what  do you do here? Um, it’ll be going on a year.  I can’t remember if I was hired in August or September.  I work in the accounting department and do accounts payable. What’s the best thing about your job? The people I work with.  Except for Becky.   We understand.  What is the worst thing about your job? Being interviewed by those annoying blog people.  Just kidding … I’d probably have to say Becky. Do you have a favorite spot in the Tri-State area? I live in Shullsburg about 40 minutes away in Wisconsin, so it’s like [...]
If you follow Runde Auto Chat, you may recall a story that we ran back in the spring of this year about Mardy Gilyard, who purchased a new 2010 Camaro SS from Runde’s.  At that time, he had finished up at the University of Cincinnati, where he starred as a wide receiver and kick returner.  He was on his way to the NFL Draft Combine where he would show NFL scouts just what he was made of.   Everyone in Cincinnati and his home state of Florida already knew that Mardy was a world-class athlete and at the NFL Combine (an invite-only event) back in February, he put his talent on display for the rest of the world to see.     The St. Louis Rams took particular notice of him and, after they failed to shock the world by taking Sam Bradford [...]
The Cruze is coming very soon and everyone (customers and employees alike) are chomping at the bit to see first hand GM’s newest jewel of the streets. But why would GM need to hire aerospace engineers to help with the car’s design? Watch and learn just how the new 2011 Cruze takes in a breath. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8No9bXWvxQ]
No one has hit for a .400 batting average in the Major Leagues since Ted Williams last did it in 1941.  In the 69 years since that time, George Brett probably came the closest to hitting .400 over the course of a whole season when he averaged .390 back in 1980.  Heck, it seems like the only thing more out of reach in baseball than hitting .400 would be the Cubs getting to or winning the World Series.  (That is unless Ryne Sandberg comes back as a player/manager and then I’d have to say that the World Series would be a sure thing for the Cubbies). If  achieving a .400 batting average seems extremely improbable, then would would .500 be.  And what does all this have to do with Runde’s?  Well, one of our summer workers, Jenna Schneider, of East Dubuque came back to work for Runde’s for the summer.  She attends Southern Illinois University and she worked for Runde’s [...]
