We sat down this morning and had a quick chat with the highly energetic and ever-ambitious Brandon Hanger. Brandon has been working nights at Runde’s for the past four years. We were so impressed with his professional drive that we immediately added him to our sales staff. He wound up selling four new cars today and he’s already decided to put the commission money away for his retirement. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-YpT6KNq18&hl=en_US&fs=1]

It’s that time of year again where we give thanks… thanks to the people we love, thanks for all of the nice things we have in life, and thanks to the ones who guided our lives in the right direction. (I remember in the fourth grade Tim Earle and I were fighting on the playground during recess — probably over who got to be quaterback next or something like that… Our teacher, Mrs. Stanton, had witnessed this and when we came back inside — she made us both stand up in from of the whole class and hug each other. Sounds weird to be thankful for a teacher who used public humiliation as a deterrent, but I went to school with Tim for 12 years and I don’t think me or Tim ever got into another fight with anyone ever again after that. Thanks Mrs. Stanton.). Come to think of it, there are so many things that we could be thankful for. Some are universal things that everyone [...]

You might remember Justin Hanger from our blog post back in April. Click here to refresh your memory. Justin works after school for us taking the online photos of cars, and recording vehicle videos. This is his story… Justin started life in Pensacola, FL, where he lived until he was three. Health complications related to his grandparents forced his family to return to small town life in nearby Dickeyville, WI. He has one sister (Andrea, 19) and two brothers (Brian, 13 and Brandon, 6). All of the boys attend Cuba City Schools, with Justin being a Senior at the high school. At the age of 10, Justin got his first experience driving on a cold winter day when he ran a four-wheeler into the back of the neighbors Jeep. He was driving down the road when he hit a snowbank, which sent him into a cataclysmic spiral towards the aforementioned Jeep. “It barely knocked off the dust off the bumper” according to Justin, but it all turned [...]
Last week Justin Hanger of Runde Chevrolet obtained the status of “Eagle Scout” which is the highest rank a Boy Scout can obtain. To get the Eagle Scout status, you must go through the different preceding ranks of the Scouts, first. There are eight ranks in the Scouts with the eighth being the Eagle Scout. Justin has been working for Runde’s since he was eight or nine-years old. He would, and still does, come in after hours to help his family clean the offices in the Runde Chevrolet building. Justin says that it usually takes about 30 to 45 minutes to clean up the building during the weekdays and it takes a bit longer on the weekends, lasting up to an hour and a half. Just a few months ago, Justin started to take digital pictures of cars for Runde’s in addition to [...]
If you’re ever in the Mississippi Valley region of the Tri-States and looking for something to do, drive up to Dickeyville, Wisconsin to the Grotto. I visited the Grotto this week. I have never seen anything like it. Growing up in Southeast Iowa, we didn’t have anything close to this. It was built between 1925 and 1930 by the priest of the parish, Father Matthias Wernerus. It combines two American ideals – love of God and love of country. He collected many different materials from around the world – colored glass, gems, heirlooms of pottery or porcelain, stalagmites or stalactites (cone- or icicle-shaped mineral deposit built up on the floor or roof of a cavern, formed from the dripping of mineral-rich water), sea shells, starfish, petrified sea urchins and fossils, corals, amber glass, agate, quartz, iron, copper, lead, fool’s gold, rock crystals, onyx, amethyst, and petrified wood and moss.
