When it comes to vehicle safety, there really is no room for shortcuts and compromise. If you are in the process of purchasing a vehicle, then you’re trusting that it will unquestionably keep you, your significant other, family, friends, Fido and whoever might be riding along with you … safe. It is probably something most people don’t think about too much (as long as it has one of those nifty “five-star crash rating” tags on it),  but wouldn’t you want to know how the manufacturer goes about their safety tests to help ensure that they are protecting you from situations that you can’t even fathom?  To get a little inside look, here are a few behind-the-scenes videos of what Chevy is doing with the new electric Volt at their crash test sites. The McCormick building – Where the magic happens. I’m gonna go out on a limb here and go on record saying the Chicago Auto Show is the auto lovers’ candy store.  The autos are eye candy for kids of all ages. “Bake me up a fresh batch of those Chevy’s, Candyman!!!”  Walking in the entrance to the show floor, it becomes overwhelming to think which direction to go first. Shortly after glancing over the offerings, it becomes apparent that your hours are turning into minutes and that the closing time of 10pm is far from fair. For those of you who couldn’t make the show, have no fear! Runde’s has you covered! Over the next week or so look forward to a review of the Auto Show, starting today with a few vehicles that were on display from Chevy. Check [...]
In the latest of on-going  tests from General Motors, we get to see the Volt in a gigantic toaster. The team is testing the effects of heat to the exterior of the vehicle. To do this, they put the vehicle in extreme heat to simulate an EXTREMELY hot day (200 degrees)… Smokin’. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCrS17Ghe6E] And to cool things down a bit, here is the cold weather door slam test. At Negative 30-degrees C.  Santa could probably turn the Volt into his new slay without worrying about his doors sticking. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zE1eqpXTyw&feature=channel]
More on the Chevrolet Volt! This time they show us the aerodynamics of the vehicle in the wind tunnel. This shows how the airflow wraps around the Volt as well as how it helps fuel economy, interesting, verrrry interesting… [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMGZca0PpG4&feature=sub]
As the Chevy Volt gets closer and closer to production Chevrolet releases more footage of some behind the scenes testing. I think it’s pretty neat of Chevrolet to show us the whole process of one of these vehicles being brought to life. The Chevy Volt is something different and new, naturally you probably have some questions about the vehicle and how it all works. Well, to your luck, the Chief Engineer behind the Chevy Volt – Andrew Farah, answered several great questions about the Volt in the following Q&A. 4:02 [Comment From Scott ] How was the drive and how does it compare to other hybrids such as the insight and prius? 4:04 Andrew Farah:  Clearly I enjoyed the significantly longer EV distance that is available with the Volt.   I had to drive quite some distance before the engine came on, even though I didn’t start with a full charge.   By comparison, our chassis is much more sporty than either of the other vehicles. 4:05 [Comment From Augie Churchill ] Mr. Farah, Do you [...]
