Ford is continuously leaping forward with advancements in pretty much everything in the automotive world. What’s the next breaking development from Ford you ask? Before that, ask yourself –  ‘How sweet would it be to have balloons for seat belts?” Now back to Ford’s breakthrough inven… huh? You say you think you know what it is? That’s right guys, moving towards a safer future with less worry about getting injured in an accident – Ford has developed the industries first inflatable seat belts. These belts (to be introduced with the new Explorer) will reduce impact pressure and control head and neck movement to avoid injury. Another great idea that will make us feel a little better about our children, families and friends driving around.  [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=40gfYi4GPNU]
Please please please do not consider bringing this anywhere near the Tri-State area. You are more than welcome to pimp out your ride how you see fit, but I enjoy sleeping in instead of waking up to this “alarm clock” WHOO WHOO. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nnzw_i4YmKk] I love how they filmed the car going on the wrong side of the road then proceeding to blaze through a stop sign… And in case you needed more: [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpl_ey5cVnk]
My mom hates him, my dad thinks he’s ok, I think he’s a great comedian. Maybe not so obviously (well I guess you could get who I’m talking about from the title of the post) I am talking about the love-him-or-hate-him Conan O’Brien. In a recent segment he tried to defend his 1992 Ford Taurus SHO vs. the new 2010 Ford Taurus SHO in terms of style, safety and features (“That’s actually factory installed bird crap”). I gotta say, as a former ’98 Taurus owner, I have respect for any celebrity who drives around in a ’92 Sho.  [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GlNJc_bzCls]
Here is an ongoing example of the woman’s role in the GM workplace. Mel works for GM as the Chevrolet Volt battery integration engineer. Mel seems to love her job, I think it’s pretty interesting! [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vleqkt0jPvg&feature=player_embedded]
Top Gear, in my opinion, is the best automotive show. Recently they reviewed (in quite a hysterical way) the Ford Fiesta. After you watch the video you will know what to expect if you get chased by “baddies” in a Corvette while in a shopping mall.  If you’re not interested in a Fiesta at all and you just want to see the Fiesta race a Corvette in the mall, then skip forward to 4min, 23sec.  If you want to see if the Fiesta floats, then skip ahead to 8min, 4sec. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Zy78tFPQwQ] If you have any questions about the Fiesta or are interested in purchasing one, give our Ford store in Manchester, IA a call at 888-927-2630 and they will be more than happy to assist you picking out a vehicle that is apparently fit for extreme chase scenes and horrific combat… can’t go wrong with that.
There are things that make you happy on the inside. Perhaps seeing someone you love prevail in something they always wanted to do, or watching a cartoon while sitting on the couch at home all snuggled up with your family, or maybe it’s something so small as to hear the crunch of Fall leafs under your feet. Hopefully reading about the Foodpack Program in Dubuque is something that makes you feel like the world is steering itself in the right direction.  The selflessness of some who make sure that the less fortunate are taken care of is the reason for the existance of the Foodpack Program. Yesterday I was watched the movie The Pursuit of Happyness. In the movie Will Smith plays as a man who is broke and barely gets by trying to sell medical equipment to doctors. This man cares deeply for his son and insists on [...]
Girls, you gotta admit that you care, to some sort of degree, about what kind of car your man, date, or fling drives. At first glance what he drives gives a little insight into what kind of guy he is. Maybe he’s the hot jock with no brains, the nerd hopeing to meet his princess Leia, the shut-in who’s really a sweet guy, the perfect man, the man who has a secret life… there’s so many possibilites. When it comes down to it, though, it’s all about what we percieve as good features in a guy… and his car. Judging from a car, maybe one girl would think that a Camaro means the guy is really exciting where  as girl 2 might think he’s a total sport car freak, it’s all about opinion. I found these following videos to be interesting. Seems like a lot of the girls have varying opinoins about a person based on [...]
It’s close to midnight and you are coming out of the grocery store to your car parked in the middle of the lot. No one is in sight and there is just an eerie feeling. What if someone were to jump out at you? How can you avoid getting yourself into situations like this that would possibly lead you to harm? I found the following videos interesting and informative on how to avoid these types of situations and to stay safe in the parking lot: [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kRgKq-79aY&feature=related] [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGPDyVho23w&NR=1] Remember ladies, stay alert while you are out there, don’t let the potential attacker get a chance to catch you off guard.
Who doesn’t remember their first car? For some of us it was the ugliest thing that stunk up the road with black clouds of gas and gave its road audition in triple forte with a busted muffler. Others had a nicer car, perhaps given to them by their parents, or possibly they worked hard counting pennies ’til they could buy that special first car they had their eye on. Regardless of what kind of shape or condition our first cars were, one thing remains true for just about everyone: our first car holds some sort of sentimental value that no car after it can give us. It’s the first time you get to feel the fresh air coming in through the window in a vehicle that you have complete control over. You and your first vehicle share many things for the first time. First ticket, first time going on a quiet drive to take off the stress, first time you [...]
Now that the Cash For Clunkers program has come to an end the question on my mind is – was it worth it? Did it, or will it actually have an environmental or economic impact? While the long term effects might take some time to determine, from the numbers I’ve been seeing it seems like it, at the very least, helped on the short term side of things.  According to the Cash For Clunkers Environmental Impact Survey; Average Clunker MPG: 17MPG Average NEW car MPG: 24MPG Average miles driven annually: 15,000 Destroyed Clunker drinks 882 gallons of gas a year New, replacement car drinks 625 gallons of gas a year Cash for Clunker Program saves 257 gallons of gas each year, per unit sold. c4c Sales Estimate: 750,000 units If you were to equate this out, you’d end up with 193 million gallons of gas saved each year. In other words,  4.6 million [...]
We had an interesting gift given to us Friday by Don Steinhoff – driver for Runde’s. Coming in to pick up a vehicle, Don shared with us a HUGE Kohlrabi that he grew before he headed out. We were all amazed by how big the thing was, and even more surprising was how delicious it was! Don starts these from seed under a grow light and they plant about 45 of them each year. Don said they give about 42-43 away each year and Runde Chevrolet was one of the lucky recipients this year!
With all of the controversy and talk behind the Cash For Clunkers Program, I thought it’d be nice to have some fun with it. The people behind the “Crash your Clunker” events drive junker automobiles off of a cliff… with a remote control. Seriously, who thinks of this stuff, it looks like they strapped some sort of device on top of a bunch of boxes and secured the steering wheel down with some wood that’s put together with some duct tape. This is by far the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen… or perhaps the smartest? Regardless, it’s good ol’ entertainment … enjoy. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_u56oYU3PI] (Runde’s in no way, shape or form suggests that you try this at home. And kids out there … Please remember that sticks and stones will break your bones, but crashing clunkers will do a heck of a lot worse to ya.)
Best idea ever. Or perhaps the worst idea ever? Regardless of which you pick, it’s undeniable that the Cash for Clunkers  program has struck up some controversy, and with good reason. On one end the program is taking gas guzzling, environmentally unfriendly vehicles off the road. On the other side, however, the vehicles that must be destroyed could provide transportation for those who couldn’t otherwise afford a vehicle. While there might be a thousand points towards the good and another thousand to the bad, it doesn’t promote or evoke the fact that the Cash for Clunkers is law and will be here until either the money runs out.  With that in mind, we thought we’d give you a behind the scenes look as to what happens with these “clunkers” that get traded in. The process is fairly simple: The [...]
Here are some more Traverse videos that we put together. Let’s just dedicate this week as Chevy Traverse Week at Runde Chevrolet. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1KCt8ehoQE&hl=en&fs=1&] [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJVejbwTO54&hl=en&fs=1&]
If you are like me you prefer the versatility, safety, and all the extra features a Crossover has for a woman. Getting groceries is a cinch with all the extra space.   Family, friends, and pets can easily fit into them and you don’t feel worried about your kids taking one on a drive because they are generally some of the safest vehicles on the road. The video below explains the progression of the crossover and how GM is incorporating more of a women’s perspective into their functional design of crossovers. The vehicle showcased below, the 2009 Chevrolet Traverse, has won many awards for safety and driving and I can personally attest to how great of a vehicle it is. If you have any questions about crossovers or would like to know how to get one, please feel free to comment to this post and we will try to help you out. [...]
Sometimes, good things have to come to an end. Not so long from now winter will fall on us and we will be left cold, leaving nothing but memories of nice walks and swims. Seasons change, some people like the change and others don’t.   Regardless of what season you like, you should always keep in mind one thing – check your tires. With a change in temperature comes a change in tire pressure. Air will compress as the temperature gets colder and will expand once it gets warmer. With a tire low on pressure, the sidewall of the tire begins to flex, causing handling problems, wear and reduced fuel economy.  Too much air will cause the tire to wear and possibly even pop, so it’s very important to know when to check your tires and how full the tires should be. How to tell if your car doesn’t have enough PSI: If your car is pulling to one side, [...]
There comes a time in everyone’s life where they have to let go of something. A child lets go of their “blankie”, A teenager lets go of their first crush, the 21 year-old slips away from the realm of a carefree life… On Friday here at Runde’s, we had to let go of Mary Jane Baxter as she left us for what has commonly been referred to as “retirement”. Laughing, munching, and enjoying herself, Mary Jane stopped by for the last time (as an employee) to the Runde Chevrolet building to partake in her retirement taco salad party. Excitement filled the air as we ate good food and chatted with Mary before she left.  Before she got out the door, I caught Mary Jane for a quick interview to discover what she might be up to in the future.   Mary Jane, your last day here… how are you feeling? Well, I’m excited and a little sad. It’ll be a big change, I’ve worked [...]
Girls, let’s face it, we have all gotten into purchasing something or another without fully understanding what we are buying or why we need to buy it. I went into a computer repair center last week to get my computer fixed up and I could have almost sworn that the person helping me was speaking a foreign language. He was saying stuff about “ram” and “mege bytes” and “mozilla firefox”… It sort of sounded like he was talking about a japanese horror movie or something … what the heck??!!  In any case, I trusted that he knew what he was doing and ended up paying about $350.00 in repairs. He mentioned something about spyware when I went in to pick it up.  I’m not sure why it was needed and I didn’t try to negociate anything. Why? because I was confused and because I didn’t want to come off as confrontational under what seemed at the time like high pressure sales. What I SHOULD have done was [...]
You might not know exactly what a mechanic means by a certain part of your car needing repair, how do you know he’s telling the truth and not just after easy money from customer with little mechanic knowledge? This video points out some good points to apply when you go in for service. Here at Runde’s we don’t hassle or beg you out of your money, we are here to get you, and your car happy again. Our four different service departments almost guarantees that a tech will be able to handle your problem no matter how big, small or complicated. [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lov1saaS8rs] But don’t take our word for it… “I wanted to send a little ‘thank you’ your way for outstanding service.  I had some warranty work done this past week at Runde Buick in Cuba City.  The service department was amazing!  I will recommend you to others.  Wanted to let you know that [...]
Let’s face it … if you have seen the movie Transformers, you have admired the 2010 Camaro in it known as Bumblebee. Maybe you’ve seen the new Camaro in person, and although all of them are structured like the one in the movie, none of them quite look the same as that sleek yellow and black striped one from the movie, right? Well, now you can make Bumblebee yours as GM officially announced the 2010 Camaro Transformers Special Edition package. The $995 package includes the following: Autobot insignia fender badges and wheel caps An embroidered Autobot insignia on the center console Gloss-black rally stripes with Transformers logos Transformers-logo doorsill plates The package can be applied to the LT (V6) and SS-trim Camaro’s in Rally Yellow with or without the optional RS package. To get yourself in the right direction of owning one of the most memorable Autobots, you can start by picking up a Camaro then adding the [...]
You are the next big street racer. You get thrilled by the speed and feel of it all – going high speeds, feeling and hearing the motor sing to you as you treat it with all the gasoline your foot can put down. One day you wake up, and you can’t see anything. The doctors all tell you that you are blind from what appears to be some head trauma you experienced the other night. You lose your licence and can no longer drive. Suddenly, your world turns upside down, the things that you loved so dearly are now forcibly extinct from the rest of your life. Life isn’t always fair, not everyone can enjoy things that we take for granted. But who says that the people have this or that disability can’t have a chance to enjoy something that we can experience? Ford doesn’t see why people that can no longer see can’t, at [...]
You’re ready to go home from your best friend’s bridal shower in a city 200 miles away from you. It’s about 8pm and you figure that you should make it home before midnight.  You think, “Wow, I had tons of fun and it was great to see Callie again!”  You hop in the car and turn the key to your ignition. “rrrrrurrrr  urrrruuuurr??? putt putt fizzle butt”  — You find your car is just not cooperating with you as it will not turn over. “Fantastic,”  you think to yourself,   “It’s only me and Mandy here tonight. I know she dosn’t know anything about cars.”  Annoyed and frustrated, you walk to a hotel three blocks down and get a room for $80 for the night.  The next morning you find a service center to tow your car to and they get your car running again. Turns out you left your lights on and it temporarily drained your battery … something a simple jump start could have cured.  You are annoyed with everything, and on top of [...]
We all caught a laugh or two watching the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Most of us know that he has his own shop and is a vehicle enthusiast. Less of us know that he loves Corvette’s and that the lucky guy has the first ever made ’09 ZR1 Corvette. Out of all of the foreign and powerhouse cars Jay has, he always seems to praise Chevy and keeps commenting on how reliable and great they are. This guy really knows his stuff about the automotive industry, I was really impressed to hear him list off horse powers, features and specifics of different vehicles on the spot.   [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UpunhO_bBe8]   There you have it, from the man behind the laughs that knows his stuff: Corvette seems to be the way to go, and if you’d like to go that way, visit us at www.rundechevrolet.com or give us a call at (815) 747-3011 and we would be [...]
Still rolling down the road in your beat up 1987 Cadillac DeVille Fleetwood Brougham rear-wheel-drive with 277,000 miles?  Well, now might be the opportune time to trade in that beauty for a brand new vehicle as the “Cash for Clunkers” program has been approved and will be giving you top dollar for your old gas-guzzling machine. It’s kind of like getting 500 bucks for the suit that you wore to your high school homecoming dance back in 1987 — you know — the one with the elbow patches that smells like moth balls. In short, this program will offer you either $3,500 or $4,500 credit off of a new vehicle when you trade in a vehicle that meet requirements. The trade-in vehicle: 1. Must be either a car, light truck, or large light duty truck. 2. Must have a combined fuel economy of 18 mpg or less. 3. Must be a 1984 or newer model.  4. Must be in drivable condition. [...]
In for service recently was Jane Wardenburg, from Williamsburg, IA. Sitting outside with her dog attracted pretty much everyone towards her. Kids in the showroom were asking her if they could ride her horse. The two of them were nice enough to chat with me for a little bit while she get her vehicle repaired. Hello Jane, what is being serviced on your vehicle? The drivers door lock was acting up.  So they are replacing that for me. What kind of vehicle do you have? We have a ’08 Suburban. We got it here in September. What service person is helping you? I believe his name is Ron McGinnis. He has been really great. Everyone here is very good. The guy we bought the Suburban from was great  as well. How would you [...]
